NFL Power Rankings: Game of the Year

NFL Power Rankings

NFL Power Rankings after Week 13 of the season. Rankings are updated every Tuesday. The NFL continues to push through the season despite all the COVID-19 concerns.

NFL Power Rankings: Last Week Here

1. Kansas City Chiefs (12-1)

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs are the best team in the NFL. Their offense is spectacular, but more importantly, their defense is playing great this year. They are the team to beat. They survived an early scare from Miami but they march on.

2. Green Pay Packers (10-3)

Aaron Rodgers is having an MVP-caliber season. His dominance brings them up to #2. They will be a force to reckon with in the playoffs. Just need their defense to play better. It’s down to Rodgers vs. Mahomes for the MVP. Would love to see that matchup in the Super Bowl. One can dream.

3. Buffalo Bills (10-3)

Josh Allen is playing like an MVP candidate. He had another great game in Week 14 taking down the Steelers. He won’t win MVP this year, but he is likely to get one soon in his career. The Bills are the biggest threat to the Chiefs in the AFC.

4. Pittsburgh Steelers (11-2)

Despite the loss to the Washington Football Team and the Buffalo Bills, the Steelers still have arguably the best defense in the league. Big Ben and the offense need to stop dropping passes but the Steelers will be fine. Big Ben needs to play better but I think he will.

5. New Orleans Saints (10-3)

Taysom Hill and the Saints struggled against the Eagles. They need to get Brees back to get the kinks out before they get into the postseason. With Brees, this team is good enough to make the Super Bowl. Brees helps vault this team up my NFL Power Rankings.

6. Los Angeles Rams (9-4)

The Rams have looked better of late. Cam Akers has emerged out of the backfield and they still have the Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey leading the defense. If Goff plays consistent, the Rams could make a run back to the Super Bowl.

7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8-5)

One word. One player. Tom Brady. It’s winning time. Not going to count him out. Off their bye, the Bucs will play motivated this weekend against the Vikings.

8. Tennessee Titans (9-4)

The Titans didn’t look good in Week 13. They bounced back in a big way in Week 14. King Henry ran all over the Jaguars as he looks to secure another rushing title. The Titans look to gain steam and make another deep playoff run.

9. Seattle Seahawks (9-4)

I struggle to put the Seahawks this high but it is still Russell Wilson. They beat up on the New York Jets like they should. It’ll be interesting to see how they play against the good teams remaining on their schedule. With Russell Wilson, anything is possible.

10. Cleveland Browns (9-4)

The Browns impressed in Week 13, jumping several spots. They let me down on Monday Night Football against the Ravens. They couldn’t stop the run and the Ravens ran all over them.  Still one of the best games of the year. I still think they are a respectable team so they only slide 3 spots.

11. Indianapolis Colts (9-4)

The Colts are a rollercoaster. They obliterated the Raiders so I expect them to have a letdown next week against the Texans. Philip Rivers is playing well and TY Hilton is finally getting involved. I am rooting for the Colts, just not sure if they can get it done.

12. Baltimore Ravens (8-5)

The Ravens abused the Browns. Lamar Jackson needs to put this team on his back and get them into the playoffs. He did that in a big way on Monday Night on the ground. The Ravens couldn’t be stopped. I liked what I saw out of them and I expect them to keep it going and make the playoffs.

13. Miami Dolphins (8-5)

The Dolphins are the team that will finish with a good record but won’t scare you come the postseason. This team isn’t ready for a deep playoff run with Tua or Fitzpatrick. Tua played great against the Chiefs but he’s not ready to win these big games. Maybe next year if they can get him some weapons.

14. Minnesota Vikings (6-7)

The Vikings have clawed back after their early season woes. In Week 14, they got a big test: the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Vikings needed to win this game, but weren’t able to. Kirk Cousins played very poorly. That last playoff spot in the NFC is going to be a tight one.

15. Washington Football Team (6-7)

This Washington Defense is no joke. They are the sole reason they won that game against the Niners. Chase Young is a beast and a lock to win Defensive Rookie of the Year, no doubt about it.

16. New England Patriots (6-7)

The Patriots surprised me. Sean McVay and the Rams had their way with that defense. I expected better. Regardless, the Patriots playoff aspirations are extremely slim. They are going to have to win out and get some help to make it in.

17. Philadelphia Eagles (4-8-1)

Jalen Hurts got the start in Week 14 and he impressed. The Eagles had the biggest leap of any team in my NFL Power Rankings, jumping over ten spots. Granted, not saying much to jump the teams in the 20s as all of them are pretty bad. Can Jalen Hurts lead these Eagles to the playoffs? We shall see. I hope so.

18. Arizona Cardinals (7-6)

The Cardinals and Kyler Murray haven’t looked good recently. That shoulder injury for Kyler is a bigger issue than they are saying. He has seen his rushing yards decline drastically. The Cardinals took care of business against the Giants but I am not sold on them just yet.

19. New York Giants (5-8)

The Giants had one of the more surprising wins of the NFL Season, upsetting the Seahawks in Week 13, but then they laid an egg to the Cardinals. You can’t win a game only scoring 7 points. Sorry just not going to happen. Do that and you slide in my NFL Power Rankings.

20. Las Vegas Raiders (7-6)

If the Raiders could play the Chiefs every week, they would be in the top five, but alas they do not. After barely surviving the New York Jets and then getting spanked by the Colts, you have to drop some spots. This is the Raiders and this is what they do.

21. Chicago Bears (6-7)

You can’t lose to the Lions and expect me to respect you. Terrible. The Lions are one of the worst teams in the league. Matt Nagy is on the hot seat, if he weren’t already.

22. Detroit Lions (5-8)

The Lions are bad, no one is saying they are good. This team is going nowhere and Matthew Stafford keeps getting injured. It’s about time they start thinking about the future.

23.  San Francisco 49ers (5-8)

The 49ers are bad, but it’s not 100% their fault. They have been depleted by injuries and it isn’t getting better. The 49ers just want this season to end.

24. Houston Texans (4-9)NFL Power Rankings

Deshaun Watson on the Texans is like Bradley Beal on the Wizards in the NBA. He puts the team on his back but they keep losing. Hopefully Texans (and NFL) fans have much more respect and admiration for Deshaun because he’s playing like a top five QB in the league.

25. Atlanta Falcons (4-9)

Can’t say many nice things about this team. This offseason will be an big one for the Falcons. Hopefully they can get this back to a winning team.

26. Denver Broncos (5-8)

Great work Bronocs, you beat the Panthers. Not. That doesn’t take any skill. The Panthers are trying their best to get Justin Fields, and they have a chance. A CMC-Fields connection would be fun to watch.

27. Carolina Panthers (4-9)

The Panthers are very bad. Do I have to say more? because I won’t.

28. Los Angeles Chargers (4-9)

The Chargers beat the Falcons in a matchup of the decade. Both teams love losing heartbreaking games. Proud of Herbert for pulling it out. They don’t move up because I am not forgetting Week 13 when they lost 45-0.

29. Dallas Cowboys (4-9)

The Cowboys are here solely because of the talent they have on their team. Andy Dalton had a great revenge game against the Bengals to keep the Cowboys slim playoff hopes alive.

30. Cincinnati Bengals (2-10-1)

The rest of the year is lost for the Bengals. At least they will get a top 5 pick to help Joe Burrow on the offensive line when he gets healthy. The Bengals will climb in next year’s NFL Power Rankings.

31. Jacksonville Jaguars (1-12)

The image below is what Derrick Henry was to the Jaguars this weekend.

NFL Power Rankings

32. New York Jets (0-13)

The Jets let the Seahawks have a field day. They looked like the practice squad they are out there. My guess is they will be in this spot the rest of the NFL Power Rankings.
