NFL Season Recap

Week 17 has come and gone and the NFL Regular Season is all but over. I am here to provide my NFL Season Recap. I will recap the 3 biggest surprises of the NFL season. Check out my article for the 3 most disappointing teams linked here, or below this article.

NFL Season Recap: 3 Biggest Surprises

1. Buffalo Bills & Josh Allen

No one circles the wagons like the Buffalo Bills! Many people thought the Bills could win the AFC East this year, but no one expected them to be this good. They finished at 13-3 on a 6 game winning streak, locking up the #2 seed in the AFC. But most surprising of them all was the maturation of Josh Allen. Once critiqued as an inaccurate passes, Allen went from 58.8% completion percentage all the way up to 69.1%. Allen is the reason this team is 13-3, and he earned his way into the MVP conversation. He won’t win MVP but he deserves to be in that conversation. He has proved all his doubters wrong and this Buffalo team looks poised to run the AFC East for many years to come. WOW!

2. Cleveland Browns

The Browns had not finished with a winning record since 2007, and had not made the playoffs since 2002. They ended both of those streaks. In his first year as head coach, Kevin Stefanski transformed this team on and off the field. He brought a winning culture to one of the laughing stocks of the NFL. I have been a fan of Stefanski since his time in Minnesota, but even I did not expect them to be this good out the gate. They finish at 11-5 and clinched the #6 seed in the AFC Playoffs. Baker Mayfield looked great. Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt proved to be the deadliest 1-2 punch in the league. The Browns have a lot to be proud of regardless of how the playoffs turn out.

3. Washington Football Team

The Washington Football Team have a lot to be proud of. Their defense is a legit force led by rookie and future Defensive Rookie of the Year, Chase Young. Terry McLaurin took big steps forward in his second year despite questions at the quarterback position. Their QB was a constant carousel, but it just felt right when it landed back on Alex Smith’s shoulder. The assumed Comeback Player of the Year did what few expected. He led this team to the playoffs. I expected the Football Team to be picking in the top 3 of the draft. Haskins is/was terrible (as he has now been waived) and I didn’t have high hopes for them this year. They surprised me, and I am excited to see how this team grows and improves this offseason. They will need to address the QB position, but this defense is legit and will be legit for years to come. Let’s see if they can upset the Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round, but regardless of how that game goes, WFT can be happy with what they accomplished this season.

Honorable Mention: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tom Brady and company took care of business. Brady threw for 40 touchdowns and carried them to the playoffs. While that doesn’t necessarily surprise me, it still was a feat in itself that deserves some recognition. Let’s see what the Buccaneers can do in the playoffs.

That’ll do it. That is my NFL Season Recap: 3 Most Surprising Teams in 2020.
