Is Christian Wood an All-Star this season?

Christian Wood left the Detroit Pistons this offseason to sign a 3 year/$41 million dollar deal with the Houston Rockets. Before the season began, I chose Christian Wood as my pick to win ‘Most Improved Player’ (proof is here).

‘Casual’ fans of the NBA had never heard of Christian Wood, and I couldn’t blame them. The Pistons were brutal last year (and they are again this year but that’s not the point), and Wood was one of their lone bright spots.

Now in Houston, Christian Wood is thriving. Wood has become a big focal point of this Rockets offense. He’s their anchor on defense and continues to block and alter shots. Wood has been giving the opportunity to expand his game and he is making the most of it. If you haven’t watched a Rockets game, you are missing out on one of the best young talents in the NBA.

Let’s dive into the numbers.

His averages:

23.6 PPG, 10.7 RPG, 1.2 APG, 1.6 BPG

55.3% FG (37.9% from 3)

Here are some of his notable game logs:

31 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block

27 points, 15 rebounds, 3 blocks

24 points, 18 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks

27 points (11/13), 9 rebounds, 1 block

Also, those are just 4 of his games this year, but he has had many more stellar games. To further illustrate his consistency, Christian Wood has scored 20+ points in 13 of his 15 games played this year. In the two games he didn’t hit 20, he had 18 points. His contract is one of the best values in the league, hands down.

In conclusion, Christian Wood deserves to be an All-Star. His numbers and his impact prove that. The proof is in the pudding. Let’s get this man to the All-Star game.
